Experiment in Photoshop

After taking the Photos I then selected the above images to run through PhotoShop.whilst in Photoshop I then adjusted the levels, the Saturations, the contrasts etc; subsequent to this I added a Star flare which in made by a Series of Radio Blur copies in the tone that I wanted in order to compliment the design. I do believe that the outcomes act as and outlook for the final design with a bit more adjustments to suit the design of the Final CD Packaging.

Photo-shoot Development

I Have tried to keep the theme that the artist goes by Quite often in his album art which is Basketball and love of Music as a result I choose to gather images that were along those lines. As I already know how to play basketball that task wasn't very hard the hard part was hand picking the photos that I actually needs to make an appropriate CD packaging.

Digital Bokeh inspired

The Digital Bokeh effect was very simple it required me to make a circle brush and adjusting the size, the jittering and scattering and save it for further use. The next step involved making a gradient on a new layer then using the circle brush on a separate layer and making the strokes that will then have a motion blur applied to it. The final stage will involve making strokes above this layer to give the image shown above.

EnGrunged Inspired

To create this image was a lot easier than I thought it would've been the first this I did was to lay the images in the sequence above the same way in PhotoShop, whilst on the second layer I added a Soft white and a colour dodge to the third and a hard light, this allowed me to keep the dark areas dark with some highlights in the picture . i then created a new layer and Painted around the edges in Black and set the mode to soft light to add a Vin-yet effect. I then merged the layers together. I then got a new layer and painted in the strokes I wanted in white; I then make a selection of the strokes and disable the layer. I then clicked on the layer that I have merged and duplicated it to create a layer of the selection.I then Added some layer styles to the image with a inner Shadow the blend mode set to multiply, an Outer glow with the blend mode set to overlay and a colour overlay with the blend mode to softlight and a orange grey colour. I then added a levels adjuster and a photo filter before returning to the stroke layer to adjust the levels to make it pop out a little bit more and this is the result. I found this tutorial very helpful in a lot of ways it has taught me some new tricks in photoshop to make an image stand out a bit more and also how to engrave a image

Wallpaper in a Trace

This tutorial helped me to create patterns with letters very well in the effect the pattern started with a letter J using photoshop i made it by duplicating the layer multiple times and rotating and flipping the letter constantly. I then added a radial gradient to give it a bright effect in the centre of the image and added a outer glow to the lettering layer to create the outcome above

Colour Spectrum background

To create this image I started with a Gradient from black to white, I then went to filter distort and wave and set the number of generators to 10 and the type to square. I then added another gradient overlay to the effect and used the Rainbow Gradient with an angle of 0 degrees and the blend mode to linear burn and put the opacity to 80%. On a new layer I then added another new layer with a gradient from black to white and set the blend mode to soft light. I then added the little squares as a brush and painted over the image on a new layer and use the blend mode overlay to add the finishing touch.

BookBinding

I have made four different Book binds such as Sewing, Staples, Elastic Band and Masking Tape. These were made quite simple by using different papers the size of a CD case which is 12cm*12cm using the four Techniques above.

3D Logo Design

7
This design was made using Adobe Illustrator it involved using the 3d shape to create a circle and apply a gradient of your choice to the shape and also put in a circle with greyscale gradient. I believe that the logo works well and is excited to see how it develops with the ideas for the CD packaging

Shiny Work Mark Logo

the shiny work mark logo was made in illustrator using the gradient tool on a text and overlay it onto the original text to create the above logo, the same style is used to create the iTunes logo. I believe that the logo works well how ever the colours in the above will be hard to make use of with my ideas and plans on how to make the final design however it can work with the right scheme of ideas.

Initial CD Packaging

These are the 3 designs that i came up with using Random Materials the First is that of a Flower Blooming the message that this gives is that the Artist is Coming of the "Sideline" and becoming a star Player. The second symbolizes the Hoop, Ball and Backboard of a basket this represents The artists Love for Basketball. The 3rd represents a break away because as you remove the CD it is again Coming of the "Sideline".

Letter Mark Logo initials

This design involves making a gradient within the rectangle and using the appropriate text in white.

circle CD Packaging Research and analysis

this CD packaging was done by a Korean pianist, by the name of Yiruma. His album is titled "The Sunbeams They Scatter," I found this piece to be very inspirational as it shows a method of how to create a circular  CD design. I like the way the colours come together in such a harmonious way the typography and album art were keep to a simple and tranquil design from this I inferred that the artist behind the design has had the genre of music in mind. In my opinion this design works well through all its components and its relativity to its genre of music. I do think that I will take the circular idea from this piece and also the the top I believe that I will try and make this into layers. I also didn't like the amount of space lefted inside the design i believe that due to the constant movement of the piece the inside valuables would get damaged. for my design I will make it a bit more compact but is still easily accessible.

I really like these designs that have been made of metal and the names and logos have been made by engraving on the front Cover the designs are not thick meaning that all the necessary information and documents that are enclosed will be compacted and made efficient use of the space. The design reminds me of the retro lunch boxes this could transit into the artists music as it has a raw element in it that reminds people of music from the 90s. the design is simple but has a lot to say and due to the material it is made from it stands out from a crowd very easily. I liked these designs as it shows the structure of how I want my designs to be made I don't think the silver surface area will suit my design however it does give me alot of options on how to do things on the surface. having this insight will help me to develop my ideas and create the best possible design with in its rights.

Logo Development

My Logo that I have decided to bring Forward has all the elements that J. Cole use it his Music all the time, Making it Big in Basketball or through a successful music Career. In the last two developments I have  merged Basketball and music to create a logo that relates to the Artist on a more personal level to further this logo I will recreate the Badge and run the image through Photoshop and illustrator to give it a more aesthetically pleasing finish

Packaging Analysis

This design was made and developed by Jacob Skarin it is a intricate design that is all about the wow factor the outside of the packaging is a dull Flat grey but as the package is opened up you can see the CAD designed football cover a well designed CD holder that just has the opposite in Aesthetics to the outside which brings about this wow factor in the difference in the design.

The Bands name is really self-explanatory as in where they got their name from which was from the famous magician Houdini. I believe that the album cover reflects the theme of magic, there is also a Picture of Houdini himself they also give the consumer the opportunity to get involved in the action as there is a padlock  on the package that is easy to open, therefore the user feel what it is like to be a Magician. The colours Red and Black with small hints of Green are the classic colours that reflect Magicans as they are seen as dark and mysterious Characters at times. As the packaging is opened their is a CD holder in the shape of a Letter this isanother item that relates closely to Magic; as you flip over this letter Holder you see a small viewpoint that shows the CD this is a Representation as the trick is relieve " Now you see it now you don't" their is also a little pocket to keep your Lock Subsequently to using the CD. I believe that the the Packaging works well and is very engaging as the Red on the Black background tends to draw you closer the theme matches what they are trying to sell there has been alot of work and thought put into the design, it is well Structured and could open up the minds of other consumers to buy there product because of the work done to the packaging.

Swizzle stick really personalized this Packaging its not an idea that you see on the shelve on a daily basis. As a consumer this is automatically put on the spotlight when seen on the shelve, as there are these well presented Laminated Cd cases with the Artist's picture, Name, Logo etc. on the front cover and there is this packaging that actually looks like a Postal order and thats the Key the Package looks like it came in the Post personally for you; if you are a new time listener of fan of the Music or this is your first time being approached by their music you are most likely gonna be intrigued by the the way the package is put together and as a result you may Buy this album. In my opinion if I saw this on a music shelf I would most likely buy it because of how personal the Package looks. The Package is held together by a string so to open it you feel special as a consumer; its like opening a present which is a one of a kind experience. To sum up I believe that the message behind the One of a kind CD packaging is that their is a Personal and One of a Kind type of music at the core or the CD.

The Slogan on the front cover says it all "UFO's and the men who fly them!" this shows what the artist feel about their Music they feel Unique they feel like they are not from this universe. Naturally seeing this or hearing this the consumer is going to at least think about buying this Product as the artist has so much confidence in themselves and there abilities some may see it as Cocky, some may see it as Confidence either way they will be tempted to listen the music.

This Packaging screams Hip-Hop from the Front Cover with the Boom Box; this one item is such a big Thing when it comes to Symbolizing hip hop and hip hop culture and how it has evolved. as the package is opened up you see some of the Heavyweights such as Notorious  B.I.G Tupac etc. there is also a walkthrough of a Breakdancing Move. This helps the artist to bring the fans closer to the music and it also gives them a blast from the past, gives them new music and Old school stuff they can relate too. This music would be mainly for the older hip hop fans but there is a mutual exchange as listening to this the older fans will appreciate newer stuff and see where the culture came from where as the newer fans will appreciate the route that the genre of music has taken and see how far it has came.

the Vonnegut Dollshouse was designed by Jeffery Harrison of Rethink Communications. The design looks very aesthetically pleasing. the reminder after looking at it is that it is like a Happy meal From McDonalds and the CD is the "Toy". The Target Audience for this album will be a Young one because thats what it will attract due to the Playhouse look it has. The packaging in my opinion will cost a lot and find it hard to fill up shelves as it is so big, I don't agree with this package as it will cost the company more and it will be very hard to market.
